Principal’s Report – Term 3 Week 3
Education Week – “Ignite your Potential”
Yesterday we celebrated 70 years of learning for Manly Vale Public School. It was wonderful to have our parents and community visit the school and classrooms to celebrate Education Week and the school’s 70th birthday this year. Thank you to our Intermediate band and our Junior choir for their performances, and to all our teachers who hosted classroom visits in the afternoon.
Thank you to our teachers who volunteered and served tea and coffee to the parents and manned the canteen for our students. A great day was had by all!
Congratulations Josie!
Josie Han (year 6) won the 11 years State Cross Country race. She will now compete in the Nationals on the Gold Coast. We are so very proud of Josie and her athletic achievements and wish her every success in her next event.
Dancesport School Showcase Monday 11 August
Next Monday our year 5 students will perform their ballroom dancing routines for their parents and friends in the school hall at 2.30pm. The Dancesport Gala event for selected couples is on Wednesday 27 August at Homebush.
Skip-A-Thon – Friday 5 September
One of our major fundraisers for the year is our annual Skip-a-Thon. The K-2 students will have to continually skip for 1 hour and the 3-6 students will skip of 1 ½ hours. We have planned to start the Skip-a-Thon for our K-2 students after the Father’s Day breakfast on Friday 5 September. The 3-6 Skip-a-Thon will be held later that day, as there is no PSSA. Sponsorship forms will be sent home with students next week. All funds raised will go to the P&C in support of our school’s funding priorities for the year. Prizes will be awarded to the classes who have raised the most funds on the day. We encourage all students to get at least one sponsor from family or friends. We do not recommend students to go door to door knocking or approaching strangers for sponsorship.
Neurodiversity Day Event- Friday 8 August- 9.00am
This Friday our Neurodiversity Support group will host an informative workshop for parents and community. The workshop will be held in the school hall. Bec McCash – CEO of Futuretech will speak on neurology and lived experience of neurodivergence. All parents and community members are invited to attend. Please RSVP via the QR code on the flyer below.
Friday Assembly – 8 August
All principal awards will be given out at this week’s assemblies. Students who were away for the banner assembly last term will now have to wait until Friday 26 September (week 10), to receive their banners.

Manly Vale Athletics Carnival Track Results ONLY
As promised, here are the track results from our School Athletics Carnival. A big well done to all students who participated and gave it their best effort, and congratulations to those who placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
Students who placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the 100m, and 1st or 2nd in all other track events, will go on to represent our school at the Zone Carnival on Thursday, 21 August at Homebush.
Once the field events and 1500m results are finalised, we will send out permission notes for those selected to attend.

Check-in assessment for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
During Term 3 students will participate in the Check-in assessment.
The check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.
The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.
- The assessment will be scheduled for our Year 3-6 students during weeks 6-9
- All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing assessment.
Students are asked to bring headphones that plug into a computer to enable them to hear audio during the assessment. These need to have a headphone jack to connect.
We thank you for your support.
Catherine Nelson - Assistant Principal
Sydney North – Senior Soccer Trials
Congratulations and great work to three of our senior soccer boys who trialled for the Sydney North team over the last several weeks. Ekam Dhillon (6T) Solly Green (6T) and Xavi Lincoln (5J) were all excellent representatives of our school and zone. Ekam got through to the final trial well done. The selectors did send an email to our school commenting on the sportsmanship and high ability of our boys, which I would wholeheartedly agree with. Well done!
Yours in Soccer - Ms Cash
Neurodiverse Support Group
Manly Vale Public School is proud to create an environment where all our children feel they belong. P&C in partnership with our Neurodiverse Support Group is excited to be hosting a parent and community workshop on Friday, 8 August. We have invited an external speaker to join us to speak on neurology and lived experience with neurodivergence. There will be an opportunity for questions. We hope to see you there.

Garden Club
A huge thank you to our amazing P&C for their generous donation to Garden Club! Our young gardeners were bursting with excitement as they planted the first batch of winter veggies. With muddy hands and big smiles, they showed such care and pride in their planting. We are so grateful for the support it has made our garden grow in more ways than one!
Jackie Holman - Stage 1 Science Teacher
