Principal’s Report – Term 3 Week 1
Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you all had a relaxing break over the holidays and are ready for another exciting term. Thank you to all the students and parents who supported our Pyjama day fundraiser in the last week of term to raise money for Stewart House, our SRC charity. $633.00 was donated to Stewart House charity who were very appreciative of our efforts as a school. It was also a fun day to end the term and support 4W’s SRC class suggestion.
Athletics Carnival - Tuesday 29 July
Yesterday we held the field events carnival for the year 3 -6 students at school. Students from 8 years and up were able to participate in the shot put, long jump and high jump events. It was great to see all the students participating with enthusiasm to earn points for their house.
Next Tuesday 29 July we will have our 3-6 Athletics carnival at David Thomas starting at 9.30am for all students in years 3-6, and those competitive 8-year-olds in year 2 who wish to compete. The students can participate in a variety of running races on the day, including the 100 and 800 metre races. A cupcake stall will be operational at around 11.00am for students to purchase morning tea. Please send cash with you child on this day so they can purchase a cup cake.
The K-2 students will have their own Athletics carnival but will remain at school. There will be 70-metre dash followed by a rotation of activities including egg and spoon races, sack races and parachute games. The K-2 carnival will finish at 11.00am for recess and the cupcake stall. Parents are invited to stay for morning tea with their children if they wish.
Parents need to pack lunch and morning tea, or money for a cup cake, as there will be no canteen open on this day.

Our Junior band will also be performing for the K-2 students on Monday 28 July at 2.00pm.
Open Day- Education Week- Wednesday 6 August
This week the Education Week theme is “Ignite your potential”. We invite all our parents and family members to visit our school on Wednesday 6 August for a picnic lunch and visit to classrooms.

K-2 Athletics Carnival
K-2 students will participate in a fun athletics carnival day at school on Tuesday 29 July - 9.15-11.00. Parents are invited to attend and stay for a K-2 picnic recess following the carnival. Students will return to regular classes from 11.20am. Year 2 students who are 8 or are turning 8 years old this year, will be able to compete in the competitive 3-6 Athletics Carnival at David Thomas. As per the permission notes and information sent via School Bytes at the end of last term, students will need to indicate which carnival (K-2 or 3-6) they intend to participate in for the day and remain with that carnival. This supports us to plan for supervision requirements, and we appreciate your support. A separate email with a form to indicate your child’s intended attendance has been sent. Please also complete the original permission forms via School Bytes if you haven’t already done so.
Athletics Carnivals
🏃♂️ Ready, Set, Go! 3–6 Athletics Carnival is Nearly Here! 🏃♀️
Get your loudest cheers ready and your house-coloured t-shirts washed — our Years 3–6 Athletics Carnival is happening next Tuesday, 29th July at David Thomas Reserve! Students will be walking down with their teachers at 9:15am, with the action kicking off at 9:30am sharp and wrapping up around 2:30pm, when students will head back to school. Students from Year 2 who are 8 this year and who have opted to join in the 3-6 carnival, will be walking down with a teacher, also and will be required to stay at the carnival for the whole day.
Parents, you are absolutely welcome to join us! Come and soak up the atmosphere, sip a coffee from the on-site coffee van, and support our fabulous P&C by treating yourself to something sweet at the cake stall (go on, you’ve earned it just for getting everyone out the door on time!).
A program with approximate times of events throughout the day has been attached. Please note that they are approximations only and we cannot guarantee it will run as stated.
🏡 Heading home with mum or dad? No problem — just remember that all students must be signed out with the roll teacher before leaving. If your child is heading home with someone else’s parent, we’ll need a signed permission note.
👕 What to wear? Sports uniform or a t-shirt in your house colour:
- PHILLIP = Blue
- HUNTER = Green
- MACQUARIE = Red
- KING = Yellow
(Yes, it’s a great time to pull out that bright yellow tee from the back of the drawer!)
🧺 What to bring: A packed lunch (canteen orders will not be available), water bottle, hat, jumper, and something comfy to sit on the grass (no chairs, please – we don’t want a chair pyramid popping up in the middle of the 100m dash).
☔️ Wet weather? If the skies open up and we need to postpone, the back-up date is Tuesday, 5 August. We will send out an email in the morning if the carnival is off. No email = game on.
We cannot wait to see our students sprint, jump, throw, cheer, and shine on the day. Go teams PHILLIP, HUNTER, MACQUARIE and KING — may the best house win (and may everyone remember to bring their hats)!
Let the games begin! 🏅

Stage 3 Science - Makey Makey Expo – Innovation in Action!
During the last week of term 2, our stage 3 students proudly showcased their ingenuity, collaboration and creativity at the Makey Makey Expo! Using their knowledge of electrical circuits, conductors and insulators, students designed and built their very own tactile games with Makey Makey kits—and the results were nothing short of electrifying.
From dance stomp pads, custom game controllers and joysticks to shooting targets, racing cars, wire loop challenges, a “cricket bat” game and even a soccer match played with upside-down goggles—it was a vibrant celebration of hands-on learning and imagination. Each project demonstrated not only technical skills but also resilience, teamwork and out-of-the-box thinking.
It was fantastic to see students enthusiastically explaining and demonstrating their creations. I am incredibly proud of their hard work, perseverance and innovation throughout the process. A heartfelt thank you to our families for your encouragement and support behind the scenes!

Manly Vale’s Great Book Swap – Raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation
We are holding our Great Book Swap again this year to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) to provide books and learning resources to children living in remote communities across Australia.
The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous languages and culture, and raise funds for a great cause. This year the ILF are aiming raise $300,000 to gift 30,000 new books to remote communities. Manly Vale have set a goal of $700.00 in support of this cause.
In preparation for our event, we ask that you bring in a book or two from home that you would like to swap. We will be collecting books until week 3 and holding our Great Book Swap during Education Week. On the day you can bring in a gold coin donation and swap your book! Date and time to be confirmed.
Donated books can be delivered to the boxes in the front office or to Mrs Lucey in the 2LW classroom.
You can also show your support by making a donation to our Great Book Swap page and sharing it with your friends, family and community!
