Principal’s Report – Term 2 Week 7
Last Friday our year 6 captains and vice captains represented our school at the 83rd Anniversary of the Defence of Sydney Commemorative Service at North Head. It was a beautiful service with Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW, and host James Griffin MP. Our school leaders Niamh, Leo, Willow and Sam were outstanding in the way they showed their respect and acknowledged this occasion by laying a wreath. Thank you to the parents who assisted with transport on the day. It was a proud moment for the school.

If you are attending a game to watch your daughter play at this field, please do NOT park in the Freshwater Campus parking area, as it is reserved for staff, students, and Department of Education employees.

Stage 1 Science
This term, our inquisitive Year 1 & 2 students have been learning about the importance of storytelling in First Nations cultures, particularly in connection to our local area around Manly Dam. Long before our school was built here, this land was home to First Nations people who used storytelling to share history, culture, and knowledge across generations. In science, students explored how light interacts with different materials and how shadows are formed. To bring both learning areas together, they created their own shadow puppet performances to retell stories inspired by the traditions of First Nations people. It was a meaningful way for students to honour the history of the land we learn on, while combining science with cultural understanding.

Kindergarten - Science
In Kindergarten Science, we’ve been learning about the boss of our bodies —the brain! Through hands-on STEM activities, we explored how our brain and body work together. We studied a model skeleton and built our own with pipe cleaners, made brain headbands, used play dough to show different brain parts, and completed body part puzzles by placing organs in the correct spots. We also played games showing how the brain sends signals through the nervous system to our muscles in order to help us move. A big thank you to our P&C for their generous support and for providing us with these resources.

Library
Board Game Bonanza
As the cold weather sets in why not visit warm the library at lunch for our Board Game Bonanza? For the month of June, we’ll have a variety of board games available for students to play and challenge their friends. Students in Year 1 – Year 6 can visit the library during the second half of lunch on their usual allocated day.
We would also welcome any generous donations of board games that you no longer need at home (but please check that all pieces are in the box).

PSSA students, please order your Friday canteen orders through the RECESS section only. Orders placed through the LUNCH section will not be able to be collected due to students attending sport.

Birthday orders
Order your birthday frozen treats through the birthday treats section on flexischools by 1.00pm the day before. During PSSA season we do not recommend Birthday orders on Friday for years 3-6 as we can not guarantee that they can be collected by the class to celebrate.
