Principal’s Report – Term 2 Week 6
Congratulations to our Junior band members on their performance at Pittwater High School as part of the Northern Beaches Festival, last Sunday. Thank you to all the parents and our conductor Surrey Hodges for attending this performance
Good luck to our Senior and Intermediate bands tonight as they perform in the Northern Beaches Festival tonight. The senior band performs at 5.00pm and the intermediate at 7.10pm at Pittwater High School. It is always a fabulous evening with valuable feedback given to all bands performing. It is a great way to set our bands up for their upcoming band tour in Term 4. Thank you to Ben Dickson and Surrey Hodges our conductors for providing these performance opportunities for our school bands. Thank you to all the dedicated parents who support these performances.

Drama and Choir - Congratulations
Congratulations to our school choir led by Mrs Mauger, and our school drama group coordinated by Miss Webster on being selected to perform at the 2025 LightsUp Drama Festival (drama) and the Sydney Northwest Music Festival (choir). Notes have been emailed home this week.
There has been an overlap in the technical rehearsal timings for these 2 events on Tuesday 17 June, and unfortunately it means that some students who are in both performances, will need to be transported from the choir rehearsal in the morning to the drama rehearsal in the afternoon. Please see detail on the individual notes. Students must attend both these technical rehearsals.

National Reconciliation Week
Last week we celebrated National Reconciliation Week in our classrooms. Reflecting on this year’s theme Bridging Now to Next, classes spoke about what we are doing now to bring Aboriginal histories and culture into our lives and school, and where we want to go next. Ideas that came through across the grades centred around continuing to talk, share, learn and connect with our Elders, Aboriginal community and also with Country. Classes spoke about building relationships and showing respect, and also practical things like their interest in learning more about how to care for and sustain land and Country from Elders and community.
As a school we created a whole school display in the front foyer, using the leaf inspired design from Reconciliation Australia.
Some classes also engaged in the Deadly Writing Festival activities last week. Corey Tutt, author of Deadly Reptiles presented an engaging and interactive talk about two amazing Australian animals, the Red-bellied black snake (‘Mutu’) and the Eastern long-neck turtle (‘Gudamun’). It was great to learn some interesting facts and how these species live and how Elders care for and sustain them.
Congratulations and thank you also to everyone for your amazing efforts on our Wear it Yellow day last week. Our gold coin and online donations for the First Nations charity Children’s Ground came to an amazing total of $1240. Our donations on the day were generously matched by corporate sponsors of Children’s Ground, allowing our contribution to go further and straight into community programs.
Thank you Manly Vale

Peer Support - Week 6
This week in peer support the groups shared the things they enjoy in life and had an opportunity to discuss their favourite activity. This session enabled children to recognise what makes them happy.
Families might like to continue this discussion at home. What activities make you most happy? Where do you go and what do you do?
Next week we will be thinking about our personal strengths.
Kindergarten - Science
In Kindergarten, we’ve been exploring our five senses and the amazing organs that help us see, hear, taste, touch and smell. We’ve learned how we use our senses every day to enjoy the world around us and to stay safe. We’ve also been discovering sensory aids like glasses, binoculars, sunglasses and ear defenders and how they help us protect or support our senses. We even explored how some people use different tools, like braille, to navigate the world—and had fun writing our names using braille code! A huge thank you to the P&C for their generous support, which helped us purchase exciting new resources for Science.
Mrs Sorensen - Early Stage One Science

Stage 3 - Scientists Get Inventive with Makey Makey!
Stage 3 have been buzzing with excitement as they take on the Makey Makey Invention Challenge! Tasked with designing and creating a tactile game for a peer, our young inventors have been putting their creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills to the test. From foil, pipe cleaners, boxes and straws to playdough, plates, cups, pop sticks and wires their wild ideas are coming to life using the Makey Makey kits and lots of scientific problem-solving. Check out the photos to see innovation in action—these students are definitely on their way to becoming the next generation of game designers and engineers!

Operation Art
Congratulations to Niamh Murgatroyd (6T) and Annika Young (2S) for having their artworks selected for entry into the Operation Art competition.
Niamh’s artwork was inspired by the book ‘The Rainbow Fish’. It symbolises the journey from selfishness to generosity, revealing that true beauty is found in kindness, humility, and sharing with others. Her piece was beautifully created using watercolour, coloured pencils, and glitter.
Annika’s vibrant palm tree artwork titled ‘Pastel Paradise’, was crafted using a mixture of soft and oil pastels to create a dreamy tropical scene that captures the calm and beauty of a palm tree gently swaying in peaceful surroundings.
Operation Art is one of NSW’s most enduring programs promoting art in healthcare. It encourages students from Kindergarten to Year 10 to create artworks that help brighten the hospital experience for sick children and their families.
Well done Niamh and Annika on this wonderful achievement and opportunity!
Mrs Hannah Taylor
