Principal’s Report – Term 2 Week 5
This week as a school we have acknowledged National Recognition Week in our classrooms. All students participated in the Deadly Writing Festival event last week, and students enjoyed learning to tell stories through interactive online workshops hosted by some of our prolific Aboriginal authors, including Corey Tutt, Thomas Mayo, Luke Carroll, Kylie Captain and Guyala Bayles. The discussion and interaction amongst our students certainly gives hope that we are in a great place for future reconciliation. At Manly Vale Public School we support the theme for this year’s Reconciliation week- “Bridging Now to Next”

Wear It Yellow- Thursday 29 May
Today we all wore a “splash of yellow” to raise money for the Children’s Ground Charity. Any of the donations from today up until 5.00pm, will be doubled. We will submit all our school donations by this time today. Donations go towards assisting Aboriginal communities with educational resources, transport and employment of First Nations early childhood educators. Thank you for your generosity.
Zone Cross Country- Tuesday 27 May
Last Tuesday 48 of our students competed in the Zone Cross country carnival at Curl Curl. There were some outstanding personal best achievements this year. Thank you to all the parents who went along to support our runners and assisted with training in the lead up to the event. Thanks also to Mr Dylan and Miss Hepworth for organising the team on the day.
We have had wonderful feedback from the community as to the amazing school spirit that was demonstrated on the day. Our team enjoyed cheering each other on and supporting every individual performance. What a great day for Manly Vale Public School. Well done to all our participants.
Online Guardians- Tuesday 27 May
Last Tuesday our years 3-6 students and their parents participated in workshops with Nathan from Online Guardian. Nathan Verinder, who is an ex-policeman, with a passion for equipping students and parents with the necessary tools and support to engage with online apps, websites and games. His website also has some excellent instructional videos to assist parents in protecting their children’s privacy. Thank you to all the parents who attended the workshop on Tuesday night. It was great to have such a large turnout. For more information, please see website below:

No Smartwatches or mobile phones at school
Please do not allow your child to come to school with a smartwatch, even if it is on “school settings.” Smartwatches and mobile phones must not be used in primary schools.
If students need to call parents, they should come to the office. We have had students found gaming on their smartwatches this week. It is a distraction to all students when others have a smartwatch or phone at school.
Mobile phones can remain in school bags and switched off during the day, for safety reasons when travelling to and from school only.
Some students have permission to wear a smartwatch for medical reasons.
Remembering Anna Gowan
We think and remember Anna Gowan who was a parent connected to Manly Vale Public School for over 20 years. Anna sadly passed away last week. Anna spent the last couple of years assisting Becky in the canteen. Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time. She will be greatly missed by our teachers, students and school community.
School contributions overdue- Dance, Gym and Technology
We are now well into our second term of dance and gym and are required to pay our instructors. Please make prompt payment for these programs. We will be looking at whether to continue these programs next year, as without parents’ contribution and support, the school is unable to maintain these fantastic external programs.
We are also required to support a one day a week computer technician, purchase online programs including Maths Online, Reading Eggs and Wushka, and provide replacement technology in classrooms. Payment for the technology contribution would be greatly appreciated.
Friday 30 May- SRC and PSSA
Tomorrow we will have an SRC meeting at 9.00am in the school hall. Guest classes 5J, 3M and 2LW. No principal award presentation this week. Weather permitting, we will have PSSA games this week, so the “RUNCH” timetable will operate.
Principal Awards will be given out at assemblies next week Friday 6 June.
Friday Chess club- Home game
Good luck to our two chess teams for this Friday’s matches against Collaroy Plateau Public School and Newport Public School.
Tuesday 3 June- Good luck Debating teams
Next week our school debating teams will come up against Allambie Heights Public School and Balgowlah North Public School. We wish both our debating teams all the best for this competition. Thank you to Mrs Johnson for her organisation of this competition.

The importance of being on time for school
Research indicates success in learning is strongly linked to strong participation in school programs which is linked to school attendance. It is important for children to develop habits of punctuality at an early age, beginning from the time they start school.
Some of the benefits of being on time to school include:
Ensures that your child does not miss the important learning activities that happen early in the day when they are most alert.
Helps your child to learn about routines and commitment.
Gives your child time to greet their friends before class. This can reduce the possibility of disruptions in the classroom.
Arriving on time every day supports children to feel strong connections to school and to have a positive view of themselves.
We strongly encourage all students to be at school by 9:00am every day to be ready to learn and enjoy a successful day.
Enrolments now open for 2026
We have already received our first enrolments for 2026. If your child is of school age for 2026, please drop into the office to collect an enrolment form and return it to the office with the required accompanying documentation. Alternatively, you can enrol online by following the links on our website.
If you have any questions about the enrolment process, Mrs Wareham in the office will be only too happy to answer your enquiries.
Peer Support
We are excited to commence Peer Support sessions this term. The whole school participates in Peer Support for 30 minutes each week. Two Year 6 Peer Support Leaders facilitate a small group of 8-12 younger students, who work together through several structured social/emotional educational activities.
This program runs over Term 2 and Term 3 and take place after lunch on Mondays. The last two sessions, supports children to get to know everyone in the group, agreeing on how they will work well together and interact cooperatively with others.
We encourage parents to talk with your child/ren about the peer support content each week, as this will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session. We acknowledge the Year 6 team of Mrs Blackband, Mr Dylan, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Lucey for their leadership of this valuable whole school program.
I hope you all have an excellent week.

Library News - Overdue Books
Last week we sent home overdue notices for all students with outstanding books on their accounts. We’d love for these books to come back to the library so that everyone can share them. Please support/ remind your child to:
- Have a thorough look at home
- Check their classroom
- Check the shelves in the school library
We kindly ask that a flat rate replacement fee of $10 is paid through School Bytes for any lost books. Once payment has been made, please email the school with your child’s name and class so that they may continue to borrow our wonderful books.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Last week our school joined over 2 million other students to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime. We joined together in a variety of ways to listen to “The Truck Cat” and complete fun learning activities. Please enjoy this selection of photos from the day.

Canteen
In Loving Memory of Anna Gowan
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Anna Gowan, a cherished member of our canteen team. Anna brought warmth, kindness, and care to everything she did—from preparing lunches, baking Anzac biscuits and banana bread, to greeting students with a smile each day.
Anna took great joy in watching so many children begin their school journey and flourish year after year. Her connection to Manly Vale Public School ran deep; she first became part of our community when her own children attended the school and contributed to the P&C during that time.
Anna will be greatly missed by staff, students, and families alike. We are grateful for the love and dedication she gave so generously to our school community.
