National Simultaneous Story Telling- Wednesday 21 May
Yesterday all classes enjoyed reading together with thousands of other students as part of the National Simultaneous Story Telling day. The book that was chosen to read this year was “The Truck Cat” by Deborah Frenkell. Some classes read the story with their buddy classes while others watched the reading online in classrooms. A lovely story shared by all. Thank you to Mrs Webster our librarian. For organising this opportunity for all our students.
Assembly this Friday- Cross Country Ribbons 9.00am
Tomorrow there will be a short assembly under the K-2 COLA at 9.00am, to present the Cross-Country ribbons to the first 6 places in each of the age races. All parents are welcome to attend. The Zone Cross Country will be on Tuesday 27 May at Curl Curl. Congratulations to all the students who will be participating in this event and representing our school. Thanks also to those parents who are training students in preparation for the day.
National Reconciliation Week
Next week the school will celebrate National Reconciliation week. The theme for this year is “Bridging now to next.” As part of the week, we will be having a charity fundraising day “Wear It Yellow” on Thursday 29 May. Students are invited to wear a splash of yellow and bring in a gold coin to support this charity who offer a community led approach to changing the future for First Nations Children. You donation will support children and families in childhood education, health, culture and language preservation.
National Sorry Day – Monday 26 May
Next Monday we acknowledge the harm caused to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by the forced removal of their children from their families, a period known as the “Stolen Generations.” It is a day of remembrance, reflection, and reconciliation, recognising the intergenerational trauma caused by past government policies.
Online Guardians- Tuesday 27 May
Our year 3-6 students will participate in an e-safety workshop with accredited experts in the field of social networks and adolescent development. Please ensure you have completed the permission note sent via email. The parent workshop is on at 6.00pm in the evening of 27 May, and all parents are invited to attend. The parent workshop is for parents only, as the content is appropriate for adults.

National Walk Safely to School Day - Friday 16 May 2025
Thank you, parents, carers and students, for your incredible participation in the National Walk Safely to School Day on Friday, 16 May. It was truly wonderful to see so many students and parents embracing safety, active travel and developing healthy habits that will benefit them for years to come.
The enthusiasm and community spirit on the day was inspiring. Seeing Manly Vale students walking safely to school, with big smiles on their faces, was a fantastic reminder of the importance of regular activity.
Thank you once again for being part of this important initiative. 🚶
Mrs Ward & Mrs Kennedy

Stage 3 Scientists Explore Conductors and Insulators!
Last week in Science, our Stage 3 students put their investigative skills to the test as they explored the fascinating world of electricity. Using batteries, wires and various materials, students tested which objects allowed electricity to flow (conductors) and which ones did not (insulators). The hands-on experiments sparked plenty of curiosity and teamwork as students made predictions, recorded results, and drew conclusions from their investigations. Science has never been so electric!

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking
On Friday, last week three finalists from stage 2 competed for two spots in the local finals in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition. Students delivered their prepared speeches with confidence and expression, impressing the judges with the quality of multicultural content making the contest hard to adjudicate. The impromptu component of the competition demonstrated quick thinking and public speaking skills.
We are pleased to announce that the stage 2 Manly Vale Public School finalists competing at the local level by the end of the term are:
Benji Yung and Ashleigh Gray, both from 4W. The runner-up was James Weatherston from 4V.
The stage 3 finalists are Marlowe McInnes from 5B and Evelyn Nicol from 6D.
We would like to extend our warm congratulations to all contestants and wish good luck to the finalists representing our school at Manly Village Public School.
Mrs Banham and Mrs Mauger would like to congratulate all participants and wish the winners good luck in the next stage of the competition.
Mrs Banham and Mrs Mauger

Library News
National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday this week our school joined thousands of others across the country to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). This event is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association, to promote the value of reading and literacy. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
The Truck Cat was the special book that was shared across schools this year, written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell. It is a story about cats and humans, immigration and identity, and homes lost and found.
Our wonderful teachers also surprised students on the day by dressing up as truck drivers from the story.
Students have enjoyed sharing this beautiful book and engaging with fun activities in class and the library. We have two copies of The Truck Cat in the library – why not borrow one to share this lovely story at home with family?
Ali Webster – Teacher Librarian

Garden Club
Garden Club is as popular as ever, rain or shine! Despite the wild weather, our keen gardeners have kept their spirits high and their hands dirty. The rain has not dampened our enthusiasm—or our garden beds! Our crops are thriving, and this week we planted some hopeful little bean seeds. Will they grow? We can’t wait to find out!
