Backflips Against Bullying- Years 1-6
Last Wednesday we launched our student wellbeing and behaviour programs with an incursion called “Backflips Against Bullying.” The show uses parkour and acrobatics to deliver positive messages and strategies to build resilience and give strategies to assist students in dealing with bullying behaviour and situations. The students and teachers loved the show. The show was a great way to open discussions with students and will lead into our Peer Support program next term.

PSSA Winter Trials- Friday
Tomorrow our year 3-6 students will be able to try out for the winter sports: netball, and boys’ & girls’ soccer. We are unable to enter a rugby league team this year due to lack of numbers. Students should come prepared in their sports uniform with hats and drink bottles.
Trials will be done in the middle session from 11.30am- 1.00pm. There will be no “Runch”- (Recess/ lunch) changes this week. The normal school timetable will operate for the remaining 2 Fridays of this term.
Evacuation Drill Practice- Friday 4 April
Tomorrow we will practise our school’s evacuation drill with the whole school walking down to King Street Park. It is important to rehearse evacuation routes and drills with the school, so our students and teachers are prepared in an emergency. Students will leave the school at around 2.00pm to return by 3.00pm for school pick up.
Junior Band Performances- Monday 7 April-1.45pm
Our Junior Band will have their first performance of the year next Monday in front of the K-2 students. The band will perform a few of their new pieces.
School Photo Day – Wednesday 9 April
Next Wednesday is our school photo day. On this day all students must wear full school uniform including plain black shoes (all black sandshoes are acceptable), white ankle socks and the dress or skort/shorts with white polo shirts. Please ensure your child comes to school with hair tidy and no jewellery at all.
Hair for boys and girls which is longer than shoulder length, should be tied back in a ponytail. This is for work, health and safety (WHS) reasons.
Our school colours are red and white so hair ties and accessories should only be in these colours. We ask for your cooperation and support in sending your children to school in full school uniform every day, and particularly on the school’s photo day.
Easter Hat Parade- 11 April- 9.00am
Next Friday we will have our annual Easter Hat parade on the basketball court/oval area. This event is for our kindergarten to year 2 students with the year 6 buddies assisting the kindergarten students whilst they parade around.
Kindergarten students will make their Easter bonnets/hats with their year 6 buddies at school. Years 1 & 2 students are asked to bring a hat from home to parade. Year 3-6 students will watch the parade.
Café Owl is open before hand and selling Easter buns and treats. We look forward to ending a very busy term with this wonderful community event.
Late Arrivals - Check in at Office
Students are expected to be in class and working by 9.00am daily. Some students regularly come to school late which is difficult for classes and teachers when lessons have already begun. Teachers are on duty from 8.40am to avoid these interruptions to class time.
Please endeavour to get your child to school by 8.50am daily to avoid unnecessary disruption to classes and lessen anxiety for children when they then must walk in late to their classes when lessons and routines have already begun.
If you are running late you need to accompany your child to the office to get a late slip. We understand that there are times when a late arrival cannot be helped but please make a concerted effort to regularly get your child to school by 8.50am on a regular basis.

P&C Welcome and Introduction
Hi everyone,
My name is Matt Lutze, I am the new President for the Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) for Manly Vale Public School.
Last week (18 March 2025) the P&C had our Annual General Meeting where we voted in the new P&C members for 2025. I’d like to say particular thanks to outgoing President Chris Nicholls, Treasurer Peter Weatherston, Assistant Treasurer Helen McDonagh, and Co-Vice President John Gillings who have been long standing members of the P&C. Thank you for your leadership and time we have big shoes to fill!
Xara Roznerski (Secretary), myself (President) and Ian Warren (Assistant Treasurer) are staying on but in new roles, with Amy Hansen staying on as Class Coordinator and Ehren Faulkner joining us as new Assistant Treasurer. As Tina has mentioned in the school newsletter (20 March), I’d also like to acknowledge and thank the many other volunteers who support the school and P&C, particularly those who support the Canteen with Becky McGowan , our School Bands – Beth Fitzgerald, Café Owl - Sally McDonald, and Wendie McDougall at the Uniform Shop.
Please note we still have openings for the Secretary and Co-Vice President positions. If you’d like to contribute and have capacity (the burden isn’t that big I promise!), we would love your support.
We have an amazing community, and I feel that Manly Vale Public School is the heart of our neighbourhood. Lucy (my wife) and I have lived in Manly Vale for the last 7 years on Arana Street (just around the corner), we have 2 children (Amelia and Nick) who are in year 5 and 3 who both started from kindy and we were fortunate to start in the first year of the new school.
I wanted to let you all know that the P&C team are here to support the development our children, to give them opportunities to grow, and enable a more enriched and fulfilled school experience.
The link to P&C is available via the schools website which I’ve copied below with a direct link to the P&C. Our minutes and correspondence can be found there.
All parents are welcome to the attend P&C meetings – these are usually held on a Tuesday evening from 7:00pm-8:30pm and held every 8-10 weeks.
Our next meeting is scheduled for 6 May 2025 – 7.00pm in the MVPS Staff Room
As the saying goes, many hands make light work, so if you feel like you’d like to help out or just want to hear what it’s all about, we’d love for you to join us!
Kind regards, Matt Lutze and P&C team
Peer Support Training Day – Year 6
Our year 6 students recently participated in an exciting and empowering Peer Support Training Day, where they learned valuable skills to help them lead and support their peers throughout the year. The training focused on building communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, all of which will be essential as our year 6 students take on the responsibility of running the school’s Peer Support Program next term. We are confident that they will make a positive impact, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students at our school. We look forward to seeing them in action as they lead by example and help create a “caring” and “sharing” school community!

Stage 3 Science – Computer Intelligence
Our stage 3 students took on an exciting challenge—designing a gadget that uses sensors to make life easier! They carefully considered how their invention would respond to different conditions and what information it would communicate to the physical world. I am so impressed by their creativity and problem-solving skills! Some students even teamed up to bring their ideas to life. There are definitely a few designs I would love to have in my daily routine!

Ride2School Day – Friday 21 March
Thank you parents, carers and students, for your incredible participation in the National Ride2School Day on Friday, 21 March.
It was truly wonderful to see so many students and parents embracing active travel, riding together and developing healthy habits that will benefit them for years to come.
The enthusiasm and community spirit on the day was inspiring. Seeing Manly Vale students arrive at school on their bikes and scooters, with big smiles on their faces, was a fantastic reminder of the importance of regular physical activity. It was equally wonderful to see all participants wearing helmets, ensuring safety remained a priority.
Thank you once again for being part of this important initiative. 🚴♂️🛴🚶♀️

Canteen
Kindergarten Frozen Items
Kindergarten have done a great job learning how to collect their lunch orders. They are now ready to collect their frozen treats from our frozen treat collection point at the canteen. Please help the canteen by reminding your children to bring their lunch bag back to the canteen to collect their frozen item. We will be highlighting the frozen item on their lunch bags to help them remember.
New Menu Items
The Canteen will be trialling some new menu items over the next few weeks (our first trial item is an extra mild butter chicken). If you would like to provide a review to us of the new items, please have your children hand write a review and hand it in to the canteen at recess or lunch. Please include the date you tried the item and the name of the item.
You may be lucky enough to receive a free item from the canteen for providing a review.
Placing a flexischools lunch order
Please make sure you select the correct date for your lunch order and check that you get a confirmation email that the order has been placed. Remember to order by 8.50am or use the late order section up until 10.00am.
